Your Light Fills My Heart (8/20/24)

A psalm for my rescue.
Your light fills my heart, O Lord
For You’ve rescued me from death.
The devil gnawed at my flesh
Yet Your blade glode clean through his neck.
With cries like weeping monsters
And screams of wailing widows
I proclaim Your victory over demons
Who parade as if not minnows.
As the sons of God descend from heaven
To circle my desperate heart, I know
That my joyful stream of tears mirror
The river of love and power that flows.
Out from your mighty arm,
Out from your hilt of gold,
Out from the peace forged blade of the Hero.
Into this broken world,
Into this lost shalom,
Into this lustful body groaning to be cleansed in-ferno.
I know You, Lord;
Boldly claimed for Your Spirit’s temple is well kept.
I know You, O Lord;
In Your name, called so that I may be saved as I wept.
And as the trumpets blared I heard your voice
As the chorus of angels sang, I heard the clash of swords--
Spirits versus spirits, Salem against Sheol the void.
So my soul came to rest, in time, as the light I looked toward.
And in the end, I knew You--
My King, my Shield.
I kneel before you, Father;
Your Word I wield.
Amen.
